Thank you for the helpful and informative piece that you ran in Marketplace on "All Species Great and Small" Tues Jan 22, 2002. Your reporter, David Bank, did a terrific job capturing the tremendous enthusiasm being generated by the audacious goal to catalog all living organisms. However, there is one factual error that is worth correcting for the record.

The Harvard Summit was indeed funded by the Gordon Moore Foundation, but for $56,000, not $1M. Evert Schlinger, one of the taxonomists involved in the founding of ALL, was the source of our initial $1M grant.
