Julia is responsible for public relations and promotion and coordinates projects such as the E-Type and E-Description Initiative. This Initiative is driven by a consortium of systematics collections and museums. These institutions will collectively submit major joint proposals to support the digital imaging of 50 percent of the primary type specimens (and their accompanying original descriptions when possible) for the Web.

Academically trained as a geologist, her professional work experience has been concentrated in the broader field of environmental sciences. Prior to her position at ALL, she worked on the east coast as an environmental consultant and concentrated primarily on integrated natural resource management issues, NEPA and SEPA document writing, state and federal permitting, endangered species surveys, and fisheries. A significant component of her work centered on wetlands delineation, monitoring, and restoration.

Ryan was one of the co-founders of the ALL Species Foundation and was instrumental in its initial start-up phase in 2001 as a Board Member and served as CEO in 2002. She continues her support of ALL as a Governing Board member. Ms. Phelan is a social entrepreneur and businesswoman who has been influential in diverse fields from education and health care to software development and the equestrian industry. She excels at starting non-profit organizations as well as for-profit businesses, building their staff, board, and partnerships, turning concept into reality, resulting in quality service and products.

Most recently, in 1995 she founded and was CEO for Direct Medical Knowledge (DMK), which was sold to WebMD (http://www.webmd.com/ ) in 1999. DMK was an extensive consumer health web site highly regarded for its unique content depth and innovative search interface. DMK developed proprietary software that enabled users to drill down through the most current medical literature and retrieved personalized health and medical information.

Hugo is responsible for the content development of the ALL Species web site and other web-related activities. Hugo has worked in the same capacity at Charitableway.com and Rainforest Action Network.

Deborah managed the daily operations of the ALL Species Foundation and served as primary support for the ALL staff, Governing, Science and Advisory Boards.. A longtime California resident, Deborah previously was the Office Manager for a trial litigation software, commercial real estate sales companies and has a retail business specializing in photo specialty items.

Danica brought skills in strategic planning, product, business and partnership development to ALL. She was key in the development of ALL's strategic business plan, partnership planning, operations and fundraising. Her past roles include VP Operations (OGNC) for Organic, Inc (http://www.organic.com)., VP Media for Knowledge Universe (http://www.knowledgeu.com/), a $3B international education company where she lead investments and inter and intranet strategy development, Vice President Engineering for Inquisit, an enterprise application for business intelligence, VP Production for USWeb, VP Marketing and Community Development for The WELL (http://www.well.com) and Network Director of Global Business Network (http://www.gbn.org).

Thau (he goes by his last name) has been creating Internet applications since 1993, starting with bianca.com , the first web-based community on the Internet. Since then he's acted as Director of Software Engineering and Senior Scientist at Wired Digital ( http://hotwired.lycos.com/), produced art exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, written numerous articles and a thau@learningsite.com

Kurt Bollacker is the digital research director of the Long Now Foundation. He is a computer scientist with a research background in the areas of machine learning, digital libraries, and electro-cardiographic modeling. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and was co-creator of the Research Index digital library at The NEC Research Institute. He was the technical director of The Internet Archive, and a research engineer at the Duke University Medical Center. Kurt is involved with All-Species as an informal advisor and assistant, including involvement with the Taxonomic Database Working Group (TDWG).
